  • 1. Submission Guidelines

    Industrial Engineering Journal (IEJ) is the official journal of the Industrial Engineering Division of the Chinese Mechanical Engineering Society, sponsored by Guangdong University of Technology and co-sponsored by the Chinese Mechanical Engineering Society. This bimonthly journal is published in Chinese and is distributed both domestically and internationally. Each issue is published in the late part of every two months. The Domestic Unified Serial Publication Number of the journal is CN 44-1429/TH, the International Standard Serial Number is ISSN 1007-7375, and the International Journal Code is (CODEN) GOGOF5. The journal has been repeatedly recognized as an Excellent Scientific Journal of Chinese Universities and an Excellent Scientific Journal of Guangdong Province.

    Objectives of the Journal: IEJ aims to lead the forefront of academic research in industrial engineering, innovate theoretical methods in the field, promote the development of the discipline, cultivate outstanding talents, advance the application of industrial engineering technologies, and contribute to the high-quality development of national economy and society in China.

    Field of Publication: IEJ primarily publishes academic articles on new theoretical methods in the field of industrial engineering, as well as original articles on the innovative application of industrial engineering theories and methods in advanced manufacturing and modern service industries. The intended readers include researchers in the field of industrial engineering from both domestic and international institutions, decision-makers in industrial and economic management departments, engineers engaged in the innovative application of industrial engineering technologies, and students of industrial engineering-related majors in higher education institutions. The scope of IEJ includes, but is not limited to, the following topics: operations research and decision optimization, engineering statistics and big data, human-machine systems and human factors engineering, production planning and scheduling optimization, engineering economics and management, quality engineering and system reliability, management information systems and digitization, logistics and supply chain management, intelligent manufacturing systems and optimization, service operations and healthcare management, cyber-physical system optimization, complex system modeling and simulation, dual-carbon and sustainable development, and healthcare system management.

    Journal Statement: IEJ has been included in the Overview of Core Chinese Journals (editions of 2008, 2011, 2017, and 2020), Chinese Core Journals of Science and Technology (Natural Science Volume) (in 2020, 2021, 2022, and 2023), and the RCCSE Core Academic Journals of China. The journal is indexed by several authoritative domestic and international databases and abstracting services, including CNKI, Wanfang Data, JST (Japan), AJ (Russia), INSPECT (UK), and EBSCO (USA).Manuscripts accepted by this journal will be included in these systems and eventually made available on the Internet. By submitting a manuscript, authors agree to grant the journal the rights to online dissemination and electronic distribution. Manuscripts that do not wish to be included in these systems and provided online services should be submitted to other journals; otherwise, acceptance is considered as agreement to these terms.

    2. Manuscript Requirements

    1) Manuscripts should have clear arguments, reliable data (without disclosing proprietary or confidential scientific results and data), thorough analysis, coherent writing, and concise text. To enhance information density, brief and precise manuscripts are encouraged. Generally, the length of a regular paper should be between 6,000 and 8,000 words. For papers based on research funded by various grants, please specify the type and number of the funding in a footnote on the first page.

    2) Submissions should include the following content in order: title, author(s), affiliation(s) and postal code, abstract, keywords (4-8), Chinese Library Classification Number (using the fourth edition of Chinese Library Classification), and English sections (including title, author(s), affiliation(s), abstract, and keywords, corresponding to the Chinese sections, with names listed in Pinyin format, surname first and given name second), main text, and references.

    3) The footer of the first page should include author information. The author biography (for the first author) should be listed in the following order: name (year of birth—), gender, ethnicity (except for Han ethnicity), place of origin, professional title, degree, and research interests. The corresponding author should provide the same information as the first author and include a valid contact email address. Any content requiring communication with the authors during the editing process will be directed to both the first author and the corresponding author by the Editorial Office.

    4) The abstract should be independent, not divided into paragraphs, and should not include figures, tables, non-standard notations or terminology. It should not cite figures, tables, formulas, or references and should be no fewer than 300 words, written in the third person. Keywords should reflect the main content of the manuscript and preferably be selected from the Chinese Thesaurus of Subject Terms.

    5) The introduction should not be numbered. Main text headings should be numbered consecutively using Arabic numbers, with levels separated by a dot, while no punctuation should follow the last number (e.g., 1, 2.1, 3.1.2). All headings should be left-aligned, with one space following the number before the title.窗体顶端窗体底端

    6) Manuscripts must use standardized Chinese characters. Notations used in figures, tables, and text must be consistent and clear (including uppercase and lowercase letters, italics, subscripts, and superscripts).

    7) Quantities and units must strictly follow the relevant regulations of GB 3100~3102. Notations for quantities should be in italics (except for pH). When expressing the specific values of quantities, units should be represented using international notations in regular typeface in formulas, figures, tables, and text.

    8) Each figure should have a figure number and a title, which should be placed below the figure. Each table should use a three-line format (horizontal lines only), without vertical or diagonal lines, though auxiliary horizontal lines may be added if necessary. A table should have a table number and a title, which should be placed above the table. Figure titles and table titles must be provided in both Chinese and English.

    9) References should use a sequential numbering system and include only publicly available sources (excluding theses and dissertations). As a general rule, the journal requires at least 15 references, particularly including those from the last 3 years. References should be cited in the text and listed in order at the end of the manuscript. For references with up to three authors, all should be listed. For Chinese and foreign names, use the format with the surname first followed by the given name. For foreign names, parts of the name may be abbreviated without “.”. Journal articles and theses should be cited in both Chinese and English. The reference numbers should be left-aligned. The formatting (including punctuation) should follow the GB/T 7714-2015 standard. The main parts are as follows.

    Journal Articles: [Number] Main Author(s). Title [J]. Journal Title (abbreviated for foreign journals), Year, Volume(Issue): Page Numbers.

    Books: [Number] Main Author(s). Book Title [M]. Edition (omit for first edition). Place of Publication: Publisher, Year. Page Numbers.

    (Monographs include various forms of publication such as regular books, ancient texts, theses, technical reports, conference proceedings, compilations, multi-volume works, and series. Document type indicators are as follows: M for regular books, C for conference proceedings, G for compilations, N for newspapers, J for journals, D for theses, R for reports, S for standards, P for patents, DB for databases, CP for computer programs, EB for electronic bulletins. Media type indicators of electronic documents are as follows: MT for magnetic tapes, DK for disks, CD for CDs, OL for online network.)

    10) IEJ only accepts submissions through the Manuscript Online Submission System (website: https://iej.gdut.edu.cn). Please do not submit manuscripts via mail or email. Manuscripts should not be submitted to multiple journals simultaneously. The Editorial Office reserves the right to edit the text or request revisions for manuscripts that do not meet the journal submission guidelines before further review. Authors are advised to keep copies of their manuscripts, as submissions will not be returned. After a manuscript is accepted, authors should promptly inform the Editorial Office of any indexing or awards received domestically or internationally.

    3. Manuscript Review Process

    IEJ follows a manuscript review process consisting of initial review by the Editorial Office, preliminary review by the Field Editor-in-Chief, peer review by experts, and final review by the Editor-in-Chief. For specific details on manuscript processing, please refer to the peer review process.

    4. Publishing and Copyright

    1) Manuscripts accepted after final review will receive an acceptance notification from the Editorial Office upon payment of the publication fee, while arrangements will be made for print publication. Manuscripts that pass the final review will be first published online on the China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI) digital platform as a priority digital edition. If the authors do not agree to the electronic dissemination of their manuscript, they must include a statement with their submission; otherwise, electronic publication will be considered agreed upon.

    2) During the editing and proofreading process, necessary textual and graphical modifications may be made in manuscripts according to relevant laws, regulations, or disciplinary requirements. If the authors do not agree to any modifications to their original manuscript, they must notify the Editorial Office in writing. Once published, the authors will be responsible for the content of the manuscript. The first author is directly responsible, while the corresponding author shares equal responsibility for the order of authorship and the authenticity of the article content. After publication, two complimentary copies of the current issue will be provided to the authors.

    3) After publication, the authors retain copyright for their article, with the first author serving as the representative of the copyright holder. Additionally, the article must not be republished in any form (including print, CD, online, etc.) in the same language in other journals. When compiling personal works (including web pages) or using the article in collections, the source must be properly cited.

    5. Related Fees

    1) To encourage authors to submit their work, the journal does not charge a fee for manuscript peer review.

    2) The authors agree to pay the publication fee in a lump sum before their manuscript is first published in IEJ. The actual fee charged will be the difference between the publication fee and the remuneration (including copyright transfer fee) payable to the authors. No additional fees will be required for subsequent forms of publication.

    The standard fee is as follows. For manuscripts within 10 pages (including 10 pages), the fee is 2,000 RMB per manuscript. For manuscripts exceeding 10 pages, an additional charge of 200 RMB per page will be applied. After publication, two complimentary copies of the current issue will be provided to the authors.

    3) The journal implements a system of rewarding high-quality manuscripts with higher compensation. The specific standards are governed by the Editorial Office documentsWe encourage industry experts and scholars to pay attention and submit their work accordingly.
