Guide to Authors

  • Industrial Engineering Journal (CN 44-1429/TH,ISSN 1007-7375, CODEN GOGOF5)is a bimonthly periodical sponsored by Guangdong University of Technology and co-sponsored by Chinese Mechanical Engineering Society. The journal is distributed both at home and abroad, aiming to promote academic exchange and disciplinary development of industrial engineering, cultivate innovative talents in industrial engineering, and push forward the technological progress of enterprises.  

    It covers an extensive research scopes, including, but not limited to, the following: Decision research, Manufacturing, Logistics, Facility planning,  Cost analysis, Engineering economics, Quality assurance, Diagnostic evaluation,  Human factors, Production organization, etc. The journal provides a domain for scientific and technical personnel conducting research in industrial engineering theory and application,decision-makers in charge of industrial and economic management in government departments at all levels, enterprise administrators, university professors and students, and others engaged in related areas of interest.

    Statement: Industrial Engineering Journal is a core periodical of industrial economy field, which was included in A Guide to the Core Journals of China (9th edition) in 2021 and the Source Journals of Chinese Scientific and Technological Thesis. The journal is currently indexed by China Academic Journals (CD-ROM version) (CAJ-CD), CNKI, Wanfang Data (China Info), Databases of Chinese Scientific and Technical Periodicals and Chinese Electronic Periodical Services (CEPS), and other abstracting indexes. All submitted and accepted manuscripts are included by the above database and are available via internet. Once a submitted manuscript is accepted for publication, it shall be deemed that the author automatically agrees to transfer the exclusive rights to this journal for its distribution on the internet or in the electronic database, which will make a lump-sum payment as author’s remuneration. Due to the limitation of funds, the total contribution fee is no more than ¥30 for every 1000 words and no additional fee will be paid for articles exceeding the limited length of 6000 words. Authors not in agreement with the above regulation on indexing, internet availability and author’s remuneration may contribute to other journals, and otherwise, they shall be deemed to be in agreement.

    The requirements for manuscript submission:

          1. Manuscripts submitted to IEJ should have clear arguments, reliable data, sufficient demonstration, and smooth and concise sentences. The content of a manuscript must not include information whose disclosure will be prejudicial to the national interest. The length of a paper should not exceed 6,000 words or equivalent content, and short communications shall not exceed 3,000 words. Preferences are given to brief and concise manuscripts of significance. For papers on the studies funded by variety of research grants, titles and serial numbers of the grant should be footnoted on the title page.    

          2. The manuscripts should include the title of the article, authors’ name (s), affiliation (institution) of each author, postal codes, abstract, keywords, CLC number, English Equivalence, the main body, and references. A self-contained abstract of about 300 words must be supplied in the third person narration, avoiding figures, non-standard and unrecognized symbols or terms, mathematical equations, or reference citations. A list of three to eight keywords should be provided below the abstract. The chosen key words should reflect the theme and content of the paper and standard words listed in Chinese Thesaurus are the first choices.

          3. The introduction should not be numbered. Headings and subheadings of the text should be numbered with consecutive Arabic numerals with a dot between different levels and no punctuation behind the last numeral (e.g. “1”, “2.1”, “3.1.2”). All the numerals of different levels should be placed flush left and precede the heading by one space. 

          4. The manuscripts should use standard Chinese. All the tables and symbols must be clear and consistent, including capitalization, block letters/italics, and subscripts/superscripts.

          5. Quantities and units must be in strict accordance with related regulations of GB3100-3102. Symbols of units shall be italicized with the exception of pH value. In indicating values or in formulas, graphs, tables, and scripts, units shall adopt international symbols and be in the block letters.

          6. All the figures and tables should have sequence and captions which are placed below the figures or above the tables. Three-lined tables should be used, avoiding vertical lines and oblique lines, and assisted by horizontal lines if necessary. Captions for figures and tables should be catalogued in both Chinese and English.

          7. References listed in a manuscript should be published except dissertations. They should be numbered consecutively with Arabic numerals, in the order in which they are first cited in the text. This journal requests a minimum of 15 references. The references should be cited at the appropriate location in the text and be numbered consecutively in accordance with their appearance in the text. Authors of the references, within the maximum of three, should be listed in full with the family name coming before the given name. Some of the foreign names can be abbreviated or even omitted. References from periodicals and dissertation should be catalogued in both Chinese and English. The numerals should be placed flush left and the Sample reference formats are given as follows:

    Monographs include all published common books, ancient books, dissertations, technical reports, conference proceedings, compilation, multivolume works and book series. Document types are marked as follows: M for books, C for conference proceedings, G for generally compiled or assembled files and data, N for newspapers, J for journals, D for dissertations, R for reports, S for standard, P for patents, DB for database online, CP for computer program on disk, and EB for electronic bulletin board online. Electronic documents are marked as follows: MT for magnetic tape, DK for computer program on disks, CD for monographs on CD-ROMs, and OL for database online.

          Only manuscripts submitted via “online submission system” are handled. Any manuscript or substantial parts of it, submitted to the journal must not be under consideration by any other journal. The editorial office has the right to make deletion and revision of the manuscripts which fail to follow the format of the journal or return them to the authors for simplification or supplementation before reviewed. The Journal charges a certain sum of publication fee if and when the manuscript is accepted for publication. Once the manuscript is published, copies of the issue will be provided free of charge as well as author’s remuneration depending on the length of the paper. Due to the shortage of manpower, rejected manuscripts will not be returned to authors unless specifically requested, and thus the authors shall retain a copy of the manuscript for themselves. If the authors fail to receive any notification after six months, the use of the manuscript will be at their discretion.

          After a paper is published in the journal, the author should inform the editorial office about the indexing and awarding information at home and abroad if there is any.
