Optimization of Efficient Hull Block Manufacturing Based on Improved Particle Swarm Optimization

Abstract: An optimization model of efficient ship hull block manufacturing scheduling is presented. The model seeks to drive the production with a pull system, balance the load, and shorten the production cycle. The hull block manufacturing schedule is usually restricted by the assembling and welding sites, operation equipment and working procedure. An improved particle swarm optimization algorithm is used to solve the optimization model with discrete and nonlinear variables. A real-world case study from a shipyard is taken as an example to verify the effectiveness of the model. The implementation is done in MATLAB. The computational experiment result shows that the optimization algorithm is effective in improving the hull production capacity and shortening the construction cycle.
