Publication Ethics Guidelines

  • Industrial Engineering Journal is a peer-reviewed, open-access academic journal that employs a double-blind review process, dedicated to upholding ethical standards in academic publishing throughout the publication process. To further strengthen the professional ethics of authors, reviewers, and editors, and to combat academic misconduct, the Editorial Office of Industrial Engineering Journal has developed the Publication Ethics Guidelines based on the Copyright Law of the People's Republic of China, the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE), and other relevant publication ethics standards, in conjunction with the specific circumstances of the journal.

    1. Author Ethics

    1) Industrial Engineering Journal only accepts original manuscripts and rejects all forms of plagiarism and fabrication. Authors are required to properly cite the works of others.

    2) Industrial Engineering Journal maintains a strict policy against simultaneous submissions. Authors must not submit the same study to multiple journals, regardless of language differences.

    3) Manuscripts must not involve national secrets or institutional commercial secrets. Manuscripts containing confidential information must undergo declassification in advance and include a declassification certification.

    4) Authors must sign the Copyright Transfer Agreement with Industrial Engineering Journal to ensure the manuscript is original and all data presented is truthful and reliable.

    5) Authors should strictly follow the writing guidelines and reference citation format specified by Industrial Engineering Journal.

    2. Reviewer Ethics

    1) Reviewers should adhere to the principles of fairness, impartiality, confidentiality, and timeliness when providing responsible comments of manuscripts. Reviews should focus solely on the academic content of the manuscripts and avoid personal judgments or attacks on individuals.

    2) Reviewers must not exploit their position to hinder or devalue a study if they find that the submitted manuscript is closely related to their own work.

    3) Reviewers should notify the editor immediately if they believe they are not suitable for reviewing a manuscript or if they are unable to provide a timely review.

    4) Reviewers should notify the editor immediately if they have any financial or personal conflicts of interest with a manuscript and should refrain from participating in the review process.

    5) Reviewers must notify the editor immediately if they find any ethical issues with a manuscript or detect substantial similarities with previously published articles.

    3. Editor Ethics

    1) Editors should handle each manuscript fairly, impartially, and promptly. Acceptance or rejection of manuscripts should be based solely on academic quality, reviewer comments, research innovation, data validity, and alignment with the journal scope and aims.

    2) Editors must maintain the integrity of review records, ensuring confidentiality of all review and editing information. Except as necessary for communication with authors, reviewers, and editorial board members, editors should not disclose any manuscript details to others.

    3) Editors must adhere to a double-blind review process during peer review.

    4) Editors must ensure that reviewers are not affiliated with the same institution as the authors and should exclude those who are named as authors or acknowledged in the manuscript.

    5) Editors should verify the qualifications of author-suggested reviewers and assess their suitability based on expertise and potential conflicts of interest. Additionally, if an author makes a reasonable request to exclude certain reviewers, editors should respect that request.

    6) Editors with personal conflicts of interest with an author (e.g., familial, mentor-mentee, alumni, colleague, or competitive relationships) should recuse themselves from handling the manuscript.

    7) Editors are responsible for preventing multiple submissions and duplicate publications. They should conduct similarity checks and reviews twice for both initial submissions and manuscripts approaching publication.

    8) Editors should inform authors about potential copyright and intellectual property issues following changes in authorship, affiliation, and the order of authors.

    9) Editors should provide authors with detailed revision suggestions or reasons for rejection.

    10) Editors should allow authors to dispute and appeal against review comments, promptly inviting suitable experts for re-evaluation and providing final decision after reviewing the appeal materials provided by authors.

    11) Editors are responsible for verifying and investigating any academic misconduct claims or potential issues with published or under-review papers, and making final decisions.

    12) Editors should ensure the transparency of academic research and make necessary retractions, corrections, or errata when required.

    4. Publisher Ethics

    1) Industrial Engineering Journal is sponsored by Guangdong University of Technology, with the Editorial Office serving as the publishing unit. Both the sponsoring and publishing units must adhere to academic publication ethics guidelines, ensuring accurate, timely, and fair publication of scientific articles.

    2) If academic misconduct is discovered in accepted or published articles, the publishing unit will retract the articles with a retraction notice, and impose penalties on the involved authors, including notifying their institutions.

    3) For published articles, if errors are discovered, the publishing unit should actively correct or retract the publication.

    4) All published content in the journal is open access. Readers may read, download, save, copy, and print articles under the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivatives 4.0 International  license (CC BY-NC-ND 4.0). Detailed information about the license can be found at: https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-nd/4.0/

    5) The journal uses the Academic Misconduct Literature Check System (AMLC) available at https://check.cnki.net/amlc2 for similarity checks. Submission to Industrial Engineering Journal implies agreement to compare the manuscript with previously published works to prevent plagiarism and multiple submissions.
