A Procedure Modularity Analysis Method of Complex Product Development Project

Abstract: Considering the complex product development project existing in non-homogeneity in module division and disharmony in management collaboration, a method of realizing the module decomposition by layer is proposed from the perspective of function relevance and information relevance. Then, according to the modular function and sensitivity function, the modularity degree and sensitivity characteristics of project procedures are analyzed. It is found that there exists an inflection point for the concavity of modularity function while the sensitivity function is concave. Moreover, an air project of complex product development is taken as an example and its procedure modules are decomposed. By simulating the modularity and sensitivity curves, corresponding management strategies of modularity are put forward from the modular degree and sensitivity perspective:When the modular degree is high, and the modular sensitivity is low, the company should expand the new development business. Otherwise, the company should improve the management flexibility and reduce the scope of new business.
